What Should I Wear? AfroPunk 2018
It's that time of the year again! Can I get a drum roll? The glorious two day AFroPunk festival is here and will be taking place on August 25-26 this year. As the manifesto states: “No sexism, no racism, no ableism, no ageism, no homophobia, no fatphobia, no transphobia, no hatefulness" AfroPunk has become a global movement that celebrates Blackness and activism through music, art, and fashion. As a result, this week our Starilized team wanted to take the time to share some tips on creating the perfect AfroPunk Festival outfit.
Headwraps will forever and always be in! Its a great way to add a flare or edge to your overall look at AfroPunk. You can play with colors, prints, and wrap styles, while choosing to cover or reveal parts of your hair. The ladies below are not only killing their headwrap looks, but really stepped out of the box in terms of how they styled the wraps.
AfroPunk is the place to get very creative and afrocentric with your jewelry. Not only has gold played a very important role in many African cultures, but it still remains a cultural staple throughout the black diaspora. These two women stepped it up with golden shades, nose septums, bangles and statement rings. They were absolutely killer looks!
Who doesn't love ankara print?! In celebration of blackness and African culture, AfroPunk is a great place to step out in your flyest ankara clothing. These previous AfroPunk attendees stepped out in a combination of very modern, sheik, and statement designs.
Hair, Hair, Hair
In addition to golden jewelry, hair has always been another important factor in black communities across the diaspora. Particularly with braids, it is a great way to have fun and show endless self expression. These past attendees stepped out of their comforts zones by playing around with colors, designs, accessories like beads , and the guys also did not come to play.
